What’s the Definition of Customer Service?

About two weeks ago, I was spending some time with my cousin and we were talking about the crazy job market. She was telling me that she had got fired from the last job that she had but considering the fact that she has an excellent work ethic, I was rather shocked to hear about her termination. When it comes to a job, she’s the type that takes it seriously and strives to do well. So of course, I had to ask her what was the reasoning for her being let go from her previous job. When she told me the reason, I was flabbergasted.

She explained that she was at work on this particular day, making a coffee drink for a customer. Well, the customer wasn’t satisfied with the order and instead of the customer simply asking my cousin to correct it, the disgruntled customer decided to THROW THE COFFEE AT HER. The drink landed on my cousin and so she returned the favor by throwing caramel on the lady. When the smoke cleared, the lady had the nerve to mention that she was going to press charges.

Do you guys remember the video of the former McDonald’s employee that embarked on beating the hell out of two women that jumped across the counter to attack him? Many of us that viewed the video felt his actions were justifiable and we were quite displeased when he was fired. It was as if that particular McDonald’s didn’t have any regards for the employee’s safety. No matter what anyone says, that employee had every right to defend himself against those two women who CLEARLY was looking to cause harm to this man.

Let’s be honest: How many times have we seen customers act a fool in an establishment and felt bad for the employee who had to take the abuse with a smile? I’ll be the first to say that I’ve witnessed that several times and in most cases, management refused to do anything about it because they lived by the bullsh*t slogan, The Customer is Always Right. Management chooses not to address the mistreatment of their employees because they have the ‘dollars over disrespect’ mentality. Meanwhile, the employees have to endure constant ridicule from customers in order to get a paycheck.

It is no secret that excellent customer service is one of the most important factors to put into practice in order to have a successful business. If a customer is willing to spend their hard-earned money in your establishment, they should definitely have the best treatment possible. This mean that employees needs to be helpful, approachable, knowledgeable about the product(s) that they are selling to the customer and a willingness to answer any questions that the customer may have. With this type of treatment, the customer will more than likely be willing to come back to that establishment and give more of their money.

However, I am a firm believer that you should treat people exactly how you would want them to treat YOU. Throwing hot drinks and jumping over counter tops over something that’s not life-threatening is juvenile and asinine. If you ordered a particular service and it’s wrong, BE AN ADULT and simply inform the employee of the error and give them the opportunity to fix it. And while you’re asking them to fix your order, FIX YOUR ATTITUDE. The world doesn’t revolve around you and you don’t have the right disrespect those that are trying to do their damn job.

Some of you miserable bitches feel compelled to throw all of your personal problems onto the employee as if they are supposed to give you the answer to your issues. It is NOT their responsibility to make you feel better about yourself. Their job is to be helpful by giving you the service that you need and keeping it moving. With that being said, stop cursing out the customer service representative on the phone because she turned off your cable. It was YOU that decided to spend your cable money on a new weave and a pack of Black N’ Mild. So now, you’re pissed at the representative and threatening to shoot her in the ass because you’re gonna miss an episode of Love & Hip Hop. That’s not her problem.

And another thing: Get a grip on life and put yourself in the employee’s shoes. You know damn well that you wouldn’t want someone coming to YOUR job and giving you a hard time. A lot of you do it because you know that if the employee lose their cool just a tad and really tell you about yourself, the first thing that you’re gonna holler is, “I wanna speak to a manager!” When the manager comes to rectify the situation, you’re gonna swear that the employee is rude, disrespectful, and not helpful when the TRUTH of the matter is that you’re just a bitch with a chip on your shoulder. Nobody has time for that.

Just because you are a paying customer, it doesn’t give you the right to treat others as if they’re supposed to put up with your abusive behavior. So cut out the shenanigans. A lot of these customer service representatives, servers, hostesses, cashiers, etc. are getting paid the bare minimum to do an astronomical amount of work. The majority of them have to work long hours for horrible pay, standing on their feet and servicing the public just to pay the bills and/or take care of their families. Oh sure, you can say, “Well, nobody forced them to take the job.” Well, let me help you understand something: Just because you’re now a CEO of a company, it doesn’t mean that you will have that job for the rest of your life. You may fall on hard times and have deal with a job like that, experiencing asshole customers that may give you the blues. Sometimes, people have to do what they have to do in order to survive and no one should be judged for that.

In other words, there’s nothing wrong with expecting good customer service. In fact, you should definitely expect that every time. However, if you want superb customer service, you can first start by being a superb customer. Have a great day.

Video By Tre Melvin

Although I love people of ALL races, I’m learning that not all races love me and/or my people.

(For the record, I DO NOT own this video and I DID NOT have anything to do with the making of this video. I’m just sharing it).

Chili is Chili

Welp,  I see that the year 2014 is gonna be that year where people are gonna lose their minds over everything. It seems that Rozonda “Chili” Thomas, member of the group TLC, got stung by the bees in the “Beyhive” (or should I say the “Bey Bullies”) when she retweeted a list of forbidden phrases for 2014 and number 5 referenced r&b artist, Beyonce’. Immediately after Chili made the tweet, fans of Beyoncé loaded Chili’s Twitter page with obscene, hateful, and disrespectful comments that were so massive that Chili decided to delete the post.

Now although Beyoncé is one of my upmost favorite music artists, I’m not gonna piss a ball of fire if someone makes a joke about her. I’m not gonna go on a killing spree if someone doesn’t like her. And that’s because people are entitled to feel however they want to feel about anybody. So with that being said, I truly think that these Beyoncé fans that had something ridiculous to say to Chili needs to really calm down and get a grip on life. It’s not that serious.

Chili did say that she loves Beyoncé and that she was only talking about ‘sayings’ that needed to be forbidden to say in 2014. Whether it’s good or bad, it is HER opinion and she’s entitled to it. So therefore, it’s not necessary to bully her. This whole speaking-up-for-Beyoncé-at-every-turn is truly getting out of hand and needs to be taken under control. Do you guys speak up this hard against lowering the crime rate? Do you guys speak up this hard to end human trafficking? Although I love Beyoncé and so do many others including Chili, people need to understand that there are some people out there who don’t love or like her and THAT IS THEIR RIGHT. Who are we to scold them and try to force them to feel otherwise?

For all of you crazed Beyoncé fans, stans, beyhives, bullies or whatever it is that you call yourselves, find something else better to do and quit jumping down Chili’s throat over something that is so trivial. I’m pretty sure that none of you are getting paid to act a fool and be disrespectful on behalf of Queen B.  And if I were some of you, I would be very careful as to what I put on social media because now that this incident has went public and everyone can see the names and faces of those that gave Chili a verbal lashing, you never know if your boss at work got wind of it and will decide to terminate you because of your poor conduct. But hey, if that happens, maybe you can ask Beyoncé for a job. 🙂

Anyway, my point is this: Although Beyoncé is the top music artist out there and she is definitely one of my favorites, she is not God. When it gets to a point where you will worship her more than you will worship THE ONE THAT GAVE YOU LIFE, that’s a serious issue. In fact, just the thought of you guys actually worshipping her like she’s The Almighty One is insane. I love her but she’s not the reason that I breath. When I’m facing difficult times and I’m in need of guidance, I don’t fall on my knees and pray to Beyoncé during my darkest hour. She didn’t make heaven and earth, she didn’t die on the cross for my sins, and she didn’t give sight to the blind with just the touch of her hand. And I’m pretty sure that if you was to ask her, she’ll tell you that if it wasn’t for God, she wouldn’t be where she is today. So in other words, it’s okay to be a FAN of Beyoncé but it’s not okay to be a WORSHIPPER of Beyoncé.  So get yourself together and realize that she’s a human being just like everyone else.

My point is this: stop dissing Chili over something as silly as this. Leave her alone. Enough is enough. If Beyoncé is not even paying it any attention, why are you?  Spend more of your time working on things that are constructive versus who said what about Beyoncé. You’re wasting time and energy. Believe me, I’m pretty sure that Beyoncé has dealt with things that were a lot worst and she was able to persevere throughout all of it. So breathe, count to ten, and sit yourself down.

Respect the Struggle

There’s definitely something that I have learned over the years: When you’re working to pursue your dreams, sometimes you have to learn how to survive on just Ramen noodles and bologna sandwiches because you have to use money to invest into your career. And if you don’t have a career that you’re striving to have or goals that you’re trying to meet, I suggest that you get on the ‘good foot’ and start moving forward with your life before you get left behind in the cold.

Let me be real: You can sit around and think that you’ll be just fine with having your regular 9-to-5 job but unless you own the place that you’re working at, you’re capable of getting a pink slip just like everyone else. Always be on your feet, thinking of ways that you can better your life on your own terms because as long as you’re working for someone else, you’ll always be under their mercy.

By all means, if you have a job, I’m not telling you to quit your job. I understand that you have bills to pay. But what I am saying to you is that your job is not guaranteed to you. Take it from me; some of these employers out here don’t give a damn about you or the fact that you have bills to pay. If they want to let you go, they will let you go and not care about what happens to you, mainly because they don’t think that the same thing can happen to them…but of course, it can.

So all I’m saying to you is that the time is NOW to get things in order so that you can have the best life that you’ve always wanted. Don’t put your dream on hold until next week, next month, or next year. Buy you a notebook and start planning for your best future NOW. You just never know what can happen as long as you pray hard and put forth the effort to make your dreams come true. Maintain your focus and know that God has your back and He will see to it that your dreams come to past. If you don’t believe anything else I say, believe this: When God sees that you’re putting forth effort to live your dream, He will set things in place for you to make it happen. He’s not gonna let you down when He sees that you’re trying. I had to learn that myself.

Don’t get me wrong; you’re gonna experience some turbulence when you’re working towards your goals. You didn’t honestly think that it was gonna be easy, did you? But keep this in mind; the trouble that comes your way is designed to knock you off your focus and make you forget about what you’re shooting for. That’s when depression comes into play and we all know that depression leads to you being unproductive and sleeping all day. Don’t go there.  I, myself, had to learn that certain family members will act very funny when you’re going thru a troubling time. I hate asking anybody for help and so when I had to swallow my pride and ask a certain relative for money because I needed some help, it broke my spirit to pieces when I was treated as if I was underneath their feet. Although I’ve never borrowed money from this individual before, they made it clear that they really didn’t want to help me at all. And it was at that moment when I realized that I needed to stay focus on what I wanted in life so that I wouldn’t be at the mercy of others and most importantly, I learned that all I have is God. You can best believe that I will never ask this individual for anything else…not even a glass of water.

Push your way thru and use your stumbling blocks as steps to get to where you’re going.  This means that you’re also gonna have to sacrifice a few things for a while. For example, I love Michael Kors just like most women. From the purses to the wallets, I love it all. But at this point in my life, I don’t care about any of that. I rather take the same money that I would’ve used on buying a designer purse and use it towards getting my career started in the right direction. I’m working on being much more responsible with my time and money so that I can have a much better future for myself. That’s more important to me than any purse.

Leave. Drake. Alone.

So as I was driving down Pleasant Hill Road earlier today, I was listening to the radio and a radio personality (I forgot her name) announced that Drake has a partnership with Jordan for his shoes, OVO Stingrays. Before I even had a chance to smile at the thought of another brotha doing well for himself, another radio personality decided to chime in and say, “His deal ain’t like Kanye’s, though” as make it clear that Kanye’s deal was better.

Let me be real: It doesn’t matter if Kanye West’s deal is better or not. I’m actually very happy that things worked out for Kanye and he was able to get his shoe deal. But if Drake has established a shoe deal as well, at least take a moment to congratulate him and not sh*t on what he has by comparing him to someone else. I get sooo sick and tired of people always trying to find a dark cloud in the midst of a brotha’s victory. This is the very main reason why I penned the blog post appropriately titled, Brotha, I Have A Question. The fact that this radio personality even insinuated that Kanye’s deal was better than Drake’s deal, it made the radio personality look like that ol’ dude in high school that was always instigating mess to get a fight started.

When he made that comment, I immediately said to myself, “Well, ‘Mr. Radio Personality’, Drake may not have the same shoe deal that Kanye has but do YOU have a shoe deal at all??? Can YOU even get a deal with Charmin’s toilet paper??? Can YOU even get a deal with generic ramen noodles??? If the answers to all these questions is ‘no’, then chill out and GET INSPIRED by what Drake has accomplished at his young age and stop throwing shade.

And for the record, if Drake wants to be the type of rapper that raps about love and blah, blah, blah, LET HIM BE. He doesn’t need to be the type of rapper that comes busting outta the gate, swinging guns around and talking about poppin’ a slug into somebody. For him, this image wouldn’t work at all and we all know this. In other words, there’s nothing corny about him wanting to create music that’s kinda different from his peers.

And no, he doesn’t need to respond to Kendrick Lamar’s disses, no matter how many times he’s pushed into doing so. Kendrick and Drake have two totally different rap styles and although I absolutely love them both, they don’t need to go into a “diss war” with each other. Things can get ugly and considering the fact that words are powerful, things might get said that can cause long-term scars between these two amazing Black men. Did we forget about the whole ordeal with Biggie and Tupac?

If we all were the same and done things the same way, the world would be boring, food would be boring, books would be boring, sex would be boring, etc. Not to sound like an after-school special, but we are all made to be different and do what works for us. For example, sometimes I curse and use slang  on website when I write about a topic versus other writers who may not use my method of writing at all. And that’s okay because we’re not supposed to be like everyone else. Although I have a college degree and know how to speak proper English, my method of writing on my website is just me being in my comfort zone, as if I’m chillin’ in the house with my best friend and we’re talking about life events. Using slang and curse words doesn’t mean that I’m ignorant or stupid. However, I enjoy reading the blog post of one that uses correct English and no curse words because as long as I enjoy the topic of what someone is writing about, it doesn’t make a difference to me how they present the message.

So the bottom line is this: It’s okay for Drake to be himself. It’s okay for Drake to receive the shoe deal that he received. Drake is not supposed to be like Kanye. Drake is not supposed to have what Kanye has. Drake is not supposed to be like Kendrick Lamar. And why? Because DRAKE is DRAKE. He’s supposed to be who he is and so far, it has been working for him just fine. So if it ain’t broke, don’t fix it.

Walmart Workers Unite!

Sh*t just got real. View the video for yourself and see what I mean. Walmart needs to stop treating their workers like Hebrew slaves and recognize the fact that their employees is just as important as the customers. When you back your employees into a corner and retaliate against them for speaking up for themselves, you leave them no other choice but to protest. Hmmm. Wouldn’t it be nice if we all could band together and do this at gas stations? Maybe the prices will go down.

Kevin Hart is WINNING!

I think that I need to rub Kevin Hart’s arm for good luck because he is definitely taking over in the field of comedy and he shows no signs of slowing down. As I was walking inside the movie theater this past weekend to see The Best Man Holiday, I already knew that I was gonna have to sit thru a string of previews before the actual movie started. But I’m glad that I did because there had to be at least THREE movies that starred Kevin Hart. Just in case you didn’t get the memo, let me inform you: KEVIN HART HAS STAR POWER.

Hart has proven that not only can he create humor thru his own pain but he is an extremely smart business man. Let me be real: We all know that the world of entertainment is extremely fickle and just because you’re well loved on Monday doesn’t mean that you’ll be well loved on Tuesday. Hollywood is always looking for the next big thing and there is always someone who is just as remarkable, waiting for their moment to shine. So when you’re hot, it will be in your best interest to strike while the iron is hot and snatch up every opportunity that you are blessed with.

Build your brand so that you won’t have to worry about income later on in life. If you don’t build up your brand and choose to play around, you can best believe that you’ll be back to where you started; performing small gigs in a smoke-filled club with less than thirty patrons. And no, I’m not disrespecting anyone that has to perform in small clubs. Believe me, I totally respect the hustle. But what I’m saying is that once you become an A-list celebrity, you definitely don’t wanna go back to the days when you were a struggling performer.

So that’s why I respect the fact that Kevin hart is hustlin’ hard and making some serious moves in Hollywood. He’s not letting any opportunities slip thru his fingers and he’s continuing to remain humble in the process. He’s diligent, relevant and most of all, FUNNY. At this rate, he’ll soon be able to pave the way for comedians of the next generation.
