Diamond of the Week (3/07/2014)

Greetings!

The Diamond of the Week award goes to:

Lupita Nyong’o

For those of you who didn’t get a chance to tune into the 86th Oscars award show on March the 2nd, you definitely missed a monumental moment when Lupita Nyong’o won an Oscar for her supporting role in the movie, 12 Years a Slave. This is the first time that I have ever honored someone for the Diamond of the Week award twice but I would be an idiot if I didn’t recognize Lupita’s Oscar win. Everyone knows that an Oscar is the most prestigious award to win and I was just too thrilled to see this beautiful Black woman grace the stage to receive it. She is definitely a shining star and before you know it, little girls everywhere will want to be just like her. ūüôā

Normally, I don’t watch the Oscars¬†because¬†they usually bore me to sleep.¬†A couple of years ago, I stopped¬†watching¬†them because it seemed like every movie that was nominated for an Oscar were movies that I didn’t even know existed. It was like¬†watching paint dry. However,¬†Ellen¬†DeGeneres has¬†announced that she will be hosting the 86th Oscars that will air on March 2, 2014!¬†Since I¬†absolutely love me some Ellen, I must tune in and watch because I know that she’s gonna be an awesome host. I pray that she gets out on stage and dance like she’s known to do on her talk show. I found out that she hosted the Oscars last year but since I didn’t bother to watch, I didn’t know anything about it. But this year, I’m ready for her.

Diamond of the Week (2/15/2014)

Greetings!

The Diamond of the Week award goes to:

Don Lemon

Although I don’t necessarily agree with every opinion that¬†Don Lemon¬†brings to the forefront on certain topics, he hit it on the nail with the Michael Dunn trial. Everything that I was thinking,¬†Lemon said it clearly and I love him for it. Many of us would’ve wanted Michael Dunn found guilty for first degree murder¬†but unfortunately, he wasn’t. However,¬†he was found guilty on four out of the five charges for attempted murder in regards to the other teens that Dunn was shooting at in the SUV…which means he’ll still serve a prison term of at least 60 years for the death of Jordan Davis. Either way, it is still a sad situation for the family of Jordan Davis, a nightmare that I hope they can start to recover from.

Diamond of the Week (2/07/2014)

Greetings!

The Diamond of the Week goes to:

Taj George

Kudos to Tamara “Taj” Johnson-George for standing up for her marriage as well as standing up for her family when she was attacked in the media by a blogger. For those of you that don’t know who Taj is, she is part of the r&b singing trio, SWV, which consists of Taj, Lelee, and Coko. In the 90’s, they were on top of the charts with songs such as Weak and I’m So Into You, just to name a few. Well a few weeks ago, the WE network premiered SWV’s¬†reality show appropriately titled, SWV Reunited. So far, the show has been pretty good and they have been getting to the root of the problems as to what broke them up as a group when they were at the peak of their career.

Last night’s episode was focused on a blogger that felt the need to say that Taj’s husband, Eddie George, was cheating on her. Not only that, the blogger kept attacking her husband, more than once. Taj made it clear that she was extremely upset with the blogger for lying and constantly talking about her husband in the media.¬†¬†So she decided to¬†call the blogger up and she gave that person a serious piece of her mind. Although bloggers can and will talk about whatever they want to talk about (even if it’s not true), I applaud Taj for standing up for what she felt was right and letting the blogger know that they needed to back off of her husband.

Now as far as I know, I don’t know if Taj’s husband is cheating on her or not,¬†and frankly, I don’t give a damn. I have way too many things on my mind than to wonder if a man is cheating on his wife. He’s not my man, so therefore, he’s not my problem. But unfortunately, there are¬†many bloggers that try their best to dig up whatever dirt they can, just to get people to subscribe to their site so that their site becomes well-known…even if that means that they hurt other people and their families in the process.

As a matter of fact, there is one popular blogger in particular that is ALWAYS talking about who’s sleeping with who, how many celebrities are doing drugs, how many celebrities are broke, and how many celebrities are gay or on the “downlow”. I didn’t subscribed to the blog because it doesn’t have any useful information that I care about. Every once in a blue moon, I’d¬†visit the site just for kicks but eventually, I stopped because with all of¬†the “dirt” that this blogger supposedly knew, I refused to believe that it was true. Some of the stories were contradicting and I had got to a point where enough was enough. Besides, when you make up lies in regards to a person’s life, you will reap what you sow in the worst way.

Diamond of the Week (1/31/2014)

Greetings all!

The Diamond of the Week award goes to:

City of Cleveland

Although Cleveland is my hometown, I didn’t wanna spend the rest of my life there. And I still don’t. I’ve been in Georgia for over ten years and I’ve been use to their way of doing things. However, I do plan to¬†move back to Cleveland¬†for 1 year (two years MAX) to regroup and get things financially in order for myself. Sometimes when things in your life are going crazy, you have to start back at the drawing board. So in September of this year, I will be there, taking two years to get myself together and come back to Georgia, STRONG. I can’t speak for anybody else but getting the chance to start over with a clean slate is extremely exciting for me and is the best birthday gift to myself. Besides, with all the NEW project developments along with other upcoming developments that the city is currently building up, I most certainly won’t be bored. Furthermore, I still have various projects that I’m working on to keep my creative feet moving. So I’ll give a huge goodbye to my past and I look forward to what’s in store for Sonica Jackson.

Diamond of the Week (1/24/2014)

Greetings all!

The Diamond of the Week award goes to:

Lupita Nyong’o

Welp! Looks like Hollywood got it right! On January 18, 2014, Ms. Lupita Nyong’o won the Screen Actors Guild award for her supporting role in the controversial movie, 12 Years¬†a Slave. Not only is she extremely talented but she is absolutely beautiful, with a gorgeous smile that can light up the world without the help of the sun. Considering the fact that Hollywood has always had a tendency to favor women of a light complexion, it was a breath of fresh air to see a beautiful mocha-colored woman in the spotlight to win an award that she rightfully earned. Honestly, I hope that this is only the beginning of a fantastic, rewarding, acting career for the beautiful swan. God bless you, Lupita.

Diamond of the Week (1/17/2014)

Greetings all!

The Diamond of the Week award goes to:

Xaviera Bryant

I have come across a ton of blog websites that cater to giving everyone the scoop on what’s going on in the world of entertainment. They’re not hard to find and most of them are accurate. BUT there has yet to be a superior blog website like Ice Cream Conversations and the reason why I have crowned Xaviera Bryant as the Diamond of the Week is because girlfriend decided to make a serious decision that most of us would’ve been scared to do: She quit her job to work solely on her dream as an entertainment¬†blogger for her website, Ice Cream Conversations. She didn’t wait for the job to give her a pink slip; she created her own. #Girlpower.

Although her partner-in-crime, Karla Hunter Brown, is a HIGHLY important part of the business and her hard work is not to be taken lightly, Bryant’s recent and bold decision to leave her day job and focus on what she really wants is not something that can be ignored. So many of us want to be able to quit our day job and work on that particular thing that drives us to get outta bed in the morning. But of course, when we get close to wanting to leave our job, fear paralyzes us and we start saying things like, “I can’t quit because I have to pay my rent, my car note is due, Junior needs clothes, I need health benefits, blah, blah, blah.” Before you know it, you’re at¬†this day¬†job for another 5-10 years, hating the same can’t-get-a-man-if-she-paid-for-one boss that is constantly micro-managing you and draining you of all positive energy.

However, Bryant has put all fear aside and made the decision to live her life on her own terms, which also includes her¬†living her dream to the fullest before her dream dies. So for anyone of you that are thinking about quitting your job to pursue what it is that you really love, write down your plan¬†of evacuation and MAKE YOUR MOVE. Xaviera, cheers to you for stepping out on faith and making the choice to¬†create your own destiny¬†for your life and being bold enough to live it¬†. (SN: I’m looking forward to you interviewing me when I’m a best-selling author, living in my beach house in California as I’m chillin’ on my sofa in¬†my red adult onesie, eating a bowl of Cap N’ Crunch). #Dontjudgeme ūüôā
